Intelligent Campus Energy management system integrates and analyzes energy demand across campus for comprehensive overview of energy use
INSEAD has committed to a 67% cut of its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, from 2019 levels, with the goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
This involved reducing its carbon footprint from its day-to-day campus operations – starting with an energy management system which could identify opportunities for energy efficiency. However, INSEAD’s continuous development plans progressively launches or reconfigures buildings and spaces for different uses over time. This meant they needed a flexible and modular solution which configures to their energy management needs. The solution would also need to integrate reliably with existing building infrastructure like chiller plant system, as well as monitor solar energy production from photovoltaic (PV) panels.
The ENX team worked together with INSEAD to optimize energy consumption by tracking details of what, when, and how energy is used. This gets the different stakeholders of staff and vendors on the same page to visualize and analyze their current energy usage at a granular level.
With the AI Plug Load Controls application in the ENX Sustainability Suite, INSEAD identified opportunities to reduce appliances and equipment energy use across their campus. This led to implementing advance demand based strategy through analytics and co-pilot AI to optimize plug load energy use. Solar energy is also integrated into energy management to provide a complete view of their energy consumption and production and to establish progress towards Net Zero.
INSEAD has developed robust energy management processes, with automated workflows updating stakeholders of their progress on their Net Zero outcomes.
Access to granular real time energy use has amplified their behavior change and sustainability initiatives. They regularly engage employees and students with visual impact of their actions, smoothening the way for greater acceptance of energy conservation programmes.
With ENX Sustainability Suite, INSEAD is embarking on further AI integration to achieve their sustainability ambitions.
